Customer care at its worst Rating of 1 new

Posted by KMason in Sutton on Wednesday, 19 Nov 2008.

My daughter bought a coat for £90 from Jane Norman, within a few weeks the seam came away, i took it back, they said it would have go off to be examined, they returned it and said it was not a manufacturing fault, they had no others back like it and could not do anything. I have never in my life heard of such appalling customer care from a high street chain. We are in the process of writing to them with advice from consumer direct. My daughter or her friends will never shop there again.

Why have a Website Rating of 1

Posted by jolcck in Gloucester on Friday, 11 Jul 2008.

I recently purchased the palm print maxi dress in a size 12 but since the dress is so clingy returned to change for a 14. There were none so I asked the assistant when they expected more delivered and was told this could be anytime since there were daily deliveries. I then asked if one could be sent from another branch but was told this is not possible as company policy did not allow this. I then asked if there was a website, intending to order one on-line in the correct size. I was told there is a website but clothing could not be purchased via this. I want to know what is the point of this website if customers cannot purchase clothing. Looking at the website all I can see is bad publicity for the company looking at the reviews.

There appeared to be plently of size 8's and 10's in this dress. I'm 6ft tall and the dress actually falls below my ankles the size 8's and 10's also appear the same length which puzzles me since the majority of my friends who tend to be these sizes are no more that 5' 4" in height. Is Jane Norman confusing ordinary mortals with supermodels!

I have been in to the store every day for a week trying to obtain a size 14.

totally disgusted Rating of 1

I bought i skirt from Jane Norman when i got it home i thought it wasn't the skirt for me so i took it back to be told that i was not allowed to exchange or refund by a barbie with a serious additude problem, so anyway while there i spotted a black dress on sale rail marked down from £40 to £22.50 great i thought! i asked them to keep the dress behind the counter while i carried on shopping (might have saw something better) but was told they can't hold sale items. At then end of my shopping trip i still didn't find what i was looking for so went back into Jane Norman to get the dress only to be told the dress was marked down by mistake and if i still wanted it it would cost me £40 full price!!!! No way i said thats your mistake not mine and as a ex retail worker i know the price you see is what you pay. She wouldn't have it and her attitude got worse. I was not a happy shopper!

Jane Norman is a rip off and bad quality Rating of 1

Posted by Lilherbz in Ipswich on Monday, 23 Jun 2008.

I have bought various items from Jane Norman I loved this shop the styles were lovely with the bright bold colours, BUT....

Several of the big wooly jumpers i have purchased have shrunk all were took back to the shop everytime was told i was washing them on a hot wash thats why and it was my fault. My defence i hand washed them as i though they might as the material was wooly NO REFUND OR EXCHANGE GIVEN.

A nice long jumper with a rolled neck after 1st wash had two massive holes because of the sitching!!!

The staff are up their own bums look at you like a piece of crap how dare you distrub their mindless chatter of boyfriends and sex with wanting to buy something or would like to ask a question!!!!

On a good note i bought a backless top and a dress both have survived so far..... BUT for how long!!!

The quality of the clothes has gone down hill big time in the last year or 2.

VERDICT- Stick to highstreet stores like Riverside, republic, newlook etc as they have a proper returns policy friendly staff and good quality clothes, do not be blinded by the nice bright bold designs of Jane Norman unless you never wash your clothes
so they can not break.

Ridiculous, like I am going to do that and spend more money on it !!!! The quality is so rubbish and the prices so high I wont be buying clothes from Jane Norman again

Bad stiching Rating of 1

Basically i was more than happy with the 1st two items i bought from jane norman.
Which cost me around 90 pounds.

The jeans are perfect.
But the lovely tunic i bought had to be restitched by my aunt.

So i went to one a town near me and spent about 150 pounds on 2 jumpers and 1 top.
I got them home and put on the jumper the next day and it had one almighty hole in it.
So we decided to make a trip back and get a different thing.

So when we get there they say they have to send it off to be checked to see if it was a machine error...I have never heard so much rubbish in my life.
Thankfully because my dad was there i ended up swapping it for a gorgeous dress.
And the other item i bought a blue top has become unstitched.

The girls are rude as hell and they think the world owes them one hefty favour

Do not try to get a refund!
You will fail

Poor Quality @ Jane Norman Rating of 3

I shopped in Jane Norman for the first time last week, and I have to say I LOVED the clothes in there although thought they were a bit pricey. Luckily they were having a 20% off sale and I ended up buying a lovely dress (RRP £50.00) and a cardigan (RRP £35.00), at home upon closer inspection the stitching on BOTH items was coming out, I returned these clothes two days later and swapped them for the same products, this took 30 minutes and I have to say they were not paticularly pleased or helpful about it!!!!! I was back in the shop yesterday having a look and I saw a lovely jumper, I was seriously considering buying it (had a weak moment!), when I saw the loose threads, this was the same with most of the jumpers on the rack!!!!! You would expect shoddy clothes if you were paying a LOT less money but for the price they charge I expect these clothes to be extremely well made. Because of this they not only lost out on £35 I would have paid for the jumper but also a coat I had my eye on for Xmas but cost £90, needless to say I won't be getting it, I will probably only wear it once and it will fall apart. I have learnt my lesson and will be steering clear of Jane Norman.

For Life! Rating of 1

I used to work for Jane Norman, but I didn't last more than 6 months because it was the worst company in the world! I can't count how many ruined dress/tops/shirts/jumpers/trousers would be hung up at the back with a ruined garment tag on, and half of the time I was their we had to put them on new stock because the stiching was never done correctly. I always had to buy uniform in two sizes bigger than I normally have because the sizes were wrong and it's extremly expensive compared to the material used. Not only that, the company employed stupid barbie dolls (hence why I left) and were idiotically docile themselves.

It put me off retail for life!!!

My advice - stay away, their prints may look funky, but it looks soooo much better on the mannequins, its not made for public domain!!!

Jane Norman....is King!!! Never mind the customers Rating of 1

I used to like Jane Norman until I encountered a refund. Then, I was thoroughly punished for being faithful. Now I walk by the shop and dont bother to look in the window. I'll never ever want to buy from JN again.

I bought a black bag from them. The bag wasnt particularly nice but I bought it anyway. I got home and realised I had to return it as it didnt match with sth I wanted to use it for.

Thinking it was at least a 21 day return policy I returned it the following week bag intact. They said they wouldnt take it back but I could exchange it, so I changed it for a top, then they said the top cost slightly less than the bag and they could give me no difference in costs back.

they said, I would need to find sth in the shop that came to the exact figure. I asked for a gift voucher they said they dont offer gift vouchers.

After an hour I found something for £2.00 less than my original item..guess what I still couldnt have it. I had to look for something in the store worth £2.00..I spent one and a half hours in that small shop furious and have never been there since.

I know they are doing it to protect their profits and reduce returns. inevitably reducing customers, and generating emotional dislike for anything JN a sure fire way to kill a company.

I wasnt surprised to see this message board. at least I've made the right choice NO JN for me..I'll stick to ZARA, River Island & Co. saner stores!!!! suggest u all do to.

If you decide to go a word of warning...whatever you do never buy a gift for someone there, you'd be Punished !!! a word is enough.

diabolical returns policy Rating of 1

Bought rivet flower dress priced at £38.00 upon washing once, as per instructions to the letter the dress shrunk by about 1 & 1/2 inches also the dress was mishapen at the hem, knowing this shop is ment to be a reputable store i was extremely dissapointed on learning that their returns policy is total b******s and nothing but a farce, as they all say they have to return the items to customer service for inspection, on which u then get a standard letter stating that after detailed examination they could find no fault with fabric or manufacturing process, after reading reviews on this site i think everybody gets the same standard letter, i have seeked advice from an independent consumer company and now have to refer to writng a letter of complaint stating the sale of goods act 1979, the staff they imploy must be trained by learning the holy grail of JN which is 'sorry we cant give returns it has to be sent to customer service for inspection' !! how hard is it to work in this shop !!! If u ever feel the need to annoy the public please apply to work for JN garaunteed job satifactory but sadly not customer satifcatory. comtemplating standing outside JN with leaflets stating JN customer returns policy for the unsuspecting poor soles that purchase from this shop, hence the young people that get duped easy no wonder the standard age for shopping at JN is between 18 and 24 !! as per JN website advert!!! currently have a rivet flower dress size 10 slightly shrunk for the shorter population and with slight wrinkle detail in the hem, going at a good price if anyone is interested !!! to be continued .......
