The following information is provided to assist with the installation of 72 Pin Simms, 168 Pin Dimms, 184 Pin Dimms/Rimms and 240 Pin Dimms.
General Precautions
1.
Turn off the computer and disconnect the AC power cord.
2.
Remove the computer
cover following the instructions located in your system owners manual.
3.
Before installing your
memory, discharge any static electricity by grounding yourself to a metal object, such as the casing on your computer.
4.
Locate the area where the memory is to be installed and remove any peripherals that may be obstructing access to the memory sockets.
5.
All modules must only be handled by their edges and should not be handled by the chips themselves.
6.
Remove any existing memory if necessary to install the new memory products
7.
72 Pin memory is generally installed in pairs but 168 Pin Dimms can normally be installed one at a
time. Please refer to your owners manual for specific information.
72 Pin Simm Memory Installation Guidelines
1.
Align the metal connectors of the memory
module with the metal connectors of the simm socket on the motherboard. Be sure
that the simm is aligned properly and that all pins line up correctly. If the
simm does not fit, turn it around as simms are keyed and will only fit in one
way round. 168 Pin Dimms have two cutouts along the row of pins and 184/240 Pin Dimms
have only one cutout.
2.
Insert the module at a 45 degree angle and
carefully grasp the two ends of the module and gently snap into place into the
upright position.
3.
Check to make sure that both retaining
posts have locked onto the module and are holding it securely in place.
4.
Replace the computer cover and reattach
cables and peripherals..
5.
Update the computers memory configuration if required as outlined in the computer users manual

SoDimm Memory Installation Guidelines
1.
If the SoDimm is being installed into a
notebook or hand-held computer that has a battery installed, then ensure that
the battery is removed before beginning installation.
2.
72 Pin SoDimms have a small cutout on the
bottom of the module next to the pins. This ensures that the modules can only
be installed one way round. 144 Pin and 200 Pin SoDimms have a cutout along the pins which
again only allows the module to be inserted one way round.
3.
Insert the module at a 30 degree angle and push the module firmly but gently into the slot until the security latches on the sockets have locked into place on each side of the module.
4.
Replace the computer cover and reattach cables and peripherals..

Large Stock Holding
Our large stock holding allows us to offer next day delivery on a wide range of products. We receive deliveries every day, therefore non-stock items are normally dispatched within 1-3 days.
Standard Memory
This section refers to the amount of memory installed as standard when the system was originally manufacturer. If the term 'Non-Removeable' is used to then this memory is soldered to the motherboard and it is not possible for the end user to remove or replace this type of memory. If the term 'Removeable' is present then the memory module can easily be removed and upgraded by the end user. With reference to Windows XP. You can easily confirm how much memory you currently have installed by selecting 'Control Panel', 'System' and then the 'General' tab.
Maximum Memory
This is the maximum amount of memory supported by your system.
Number of Slots
As an example, '3 Slots' refers to the total number of memory expansion slots in your system. The terms 'banks' refers to the number of modules that have to be installed at the same time. As an example, '(3 Banks of 1), means that the memory modules can be installed one at a time. If the information stated '(3 Banks of 2) then the modules would need to be installed in pairs and if the information stated '(3 Banks of 4)', then the modules need to be installed four at a time. If you install less than the number of modules required to fill the bank, then the system will not recognise the additional memory.
Please note that the 'OFFTEK Memory Configurator' automatically identifies the number of modules required to complete a bank. Therefore if the memory needs to be installed in pairs, then our configurator will identify this and present the upgrade options as 'Kits' as opposed to modules, indicating that the correct number of memory modules has been identified.
How Much Memory Do I Need
Once you know how much memory you have installed, how many slots you have available for upgrading and also the maximum amount of memory supported by your system, you can then use the following table to determine how much memory you require.
How Much memory Do You require ?
Identify the typical applications that you use from the list below (Administrator, Executive or Professional) and then cross reference with your operating system from the table below. You will then be able to determine the amount of memory you require. Remember that the more applications you use, the more memory you will need. Please note that this information is provided as a guide only.
Administrator
Typically tasks include word processing, email, spreadsheets, Internet etc. Heavy users in this category will also be running graphical or presentation based software.
Executive
Typically tasks include project management, databases and Internet. Heavy users will also be involved in video conferencing and using large databases.
