If you are thinking about car insurance with MORE TH>N, I would seriously advise you to think very carefully and my personal advise would be dont unless you want more MORE TH>N the usual hassle. I started driving 37 years ago and I've never had so many problems with a car insurance policy before.
Our policy with MORE TH>N came up for renewal on 6 September 2006. I phoned them and gave my credit card details on 21 August 2006, well ahead of the renewal date as we were going off on holiday from 3 September 2006. The renewal certificate arrived well before our departure.
On 20 October 2006 I phoned them to advise that I was changing my car to a brand new one. Before I started the discussion about the new car details, I was advised that I had not paid for my current insurance, which was a total surprise to me as I had paid the renewal premium early and I had the renewal insurance certificate to prove cover. Cheekily I was asked "Have you not had our letters?" "Why had I not responded to the letters?"
No I had not had any letters, but strangely one arrived on my doormat on 21 October 2006 the next day!
I asked why I had a certificate if it had not been paid no plausible answer.
I asked if I had been insured from 6 September 2006 no plausible answer. (I suspect that I was not covered in MORE TH>N's view and that if I had needed to claim they would have denied all responsibility).
Whilst this long conversation was in progress I was able to use my computer to sign on to my credit card account and sure enough they had not taken payment on our around 21 August..
So on 20 October I gave my card details again. I was then asked to keep a close eye on my account to make sure that payment was actually taken this time, and to phone them again if it was not taken after a few days. I bet like me that your thinking their administration is pretty poor (polite words) and unreliable that they have to ask the customer to watch that they take payments correctly!
Now for the next issue when I tried to change the car registered on the policy to the brand new car I had just ordered.
Although I had not taken ownership of the new car, I needed a new insurance certificate against the new car registration so that I could get the garage to arrange the motor tax. At that time I had not arranged for the payment funds to be available for the new car and I had no idea on what date I would be making the swap (giving my old car in part-exchange).
This was all totally beyond their comprehension. I was told that I needed to give a date for the swap, as I could not have the new car covered until then. I explained that I needed the car insured (with a certificate) so that the garage could get the new car taxed from their local Post Office. After having the phone call put on hold again, I was advised that I could get the motor tax online! Great but unless the car is insured and the licensing authority can see that on their online system, then that is a non-starter.
After much discussion I was then offered a solution. They could change the car on the policy to the new car now and continue to provide cover on my old car for up to 21 days, but I would have to call them after 7 days if I wanted this extended after the first 7 days. So, why all the hassle from MORE TH>N? Why did they not say that 20 minutes ago?
I was then charged another £34.28 as an administration fee for changing the car, having two cars covered for the overlap period and I guess an increase to cover the higher value new car too. They actually did take this fee along with the renewal charge yes, I kept an eye on my card account, just to ensure they did not "forget it" again.
So, I have now got the garage to get the new car road taxed, the funds to pay for the new car are now in my bank account and I have arranged to pick up the new car tomorrow on 28 October 2006.
But, I had made a note that MORE TH>N had asked me to call them if I wanted to use the next 7 days of the cover on my old car. So, today I called them. Surprise, surprise there is another administration charge of £20. I was absolutely fuming. I had not been told that out of the 21 days of "overlap cover" (when I could only ever have one car on the road the first 7 days was "free" but to extend for another 7 days would incur a further charge. After insisting on speaking to a "supervisor" and venting my anger the top up fee was reduced to £10 as a big favour, because I wanted cover for only one day.
Before being squeezed out of yet another fee, I had a thought that I could continue to drive my old car under the third party cover afforded by my fully comprehensive policy. However, I was advised that this was not possible as the old car still belongs to me (the policy says that a car not belonging to the policyholder can be driven in addition to the named vehicle).
It's also worth noting that all the people I spoke to at their call centre (about 4 or 5 different people I think over all the calls) where difficult to understand as they appeared to be from the ethnic minorities. They were all polite, and dealt with a difficult customer well, but their knowledge, ability to understand, ability to communicate succinctly and ability to offer helpful and meaningful solutions was appalling.
So hopefully there you have it unless MORE TH>N can come up with more hassle before the end of my current policy to raise my blood pressure.
I will not be with MORE TH>N when the current policy expires and I would advise you not to make the same mistake that I have.

I got a new car, and never had any claims. I have been a good driver, with no points or penalties etc.
I had never claimed from my car insurance, but I had a bump a few years back that was not my fault, and was claimed as such, i.e. non-fault.
I have the bonus for life, the breakdown, and legal protection cover etc.
I have 8 years no claims, and I am 29.
I had paid around £550 for my insurance every year, which I thought was OK, and I never even used the breakdown cover!
And then my More Than car insurance renewal came through the door. When I looked at the renewal quote I nearly fainted! £1400! I thought it must be a mistake right? Wrong!
I phoned and asked, and the girl i spoke to said it must be a mistake and put me on hold, then I got transferred to a guy. He went through my details etc.. and said it wasn't a mistake and that it was my quote. I asked why there had been such a hike in price, especially with no claims? He said he didn't know. I asked about their promise not to increase prices, and he had no answer to that one! I just thought they where having a laugh.
I have now gone elsewhere and got it for less - £490 all in.
I never had any dealings with More Than apart from renewal time, and that ended up being a waste of time, so two (or more) thumbs down!
The moral of the story is ALWAYS shop around for your car insurance!
