More isn't always better. So while we could make more ties, we prefer to take our time. As a result, we hand sew a mere 15 ties an hour compared to machine-sewn versions that come off the line at around 150 an hour. The fabric for each tie is cut exactly at a 45-degree bias. It's this precise angle that allows the finished tie to lie flat and resist turning over to one side, a defect called 'corkscrewing'. We use a self-fabric keeper instead of cheaper cloth, bartacking at both ends and a full lining.
