I was referred to E2SAVE.COM from another site. Their offers seemed attractive and they are apparently affiliated with CARPHONE WAREHOUSE so I went for a 12 month contract and filled in all my personal and credit card details and my ADDRESS for the order.

After waiting a few days, I got an e-mail from EMMA B____ ('WEB SALES TEAM MANAGER') asking for a copy of my NUS card (me being a student), which I faxed right away.

After that I got no response again for a few days, so I MAILED THEM A NUMBER OF TIMES to check about my order. I had to send several e-mails to EMMA and the 'WEB SALES TEAM' OVER THE PERIOD OF A WEEK to finally get a response saying my order had been CANCELED as they 'CANNOT DELIVER TO A HALLS OF RESIDENCE ADDRESS'.

Well, why have me wait SO MANY DAYS and ASK FOR MY NUS CARD to CONFIRM I AM A STUDENT if they do not deliver to a halls of residence address??

So I decided to call them up. After WAITING A GOOD 20 MINUTES ON A PREMIUM NUMBER, someone picked up and rudely repeated they do not deliver to a halls of residence address. When I offered to give a different delivery address or pick it up myself, he VERY RUDELY said they cannot deliver to ANY address and HUNG UP.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.

(In retrospect, it's good I didn't get the offer. Hopefully I won't have to deal with the likes of e2save.com ever again.)

Generally I found the e2save website easy to use and the offerings were mostly good deals. I pre-ordered a 3G phone, so I'd anticipated delays and limited availablity. Hang it all I was prepared to wait.

e2save contacted me by email 4 days after I placed my order saying "Due to the current UK stock levels of this product we anticipate a small delay in dispatching your order. We anticipate that this delay will be no longer than 7-14 days." When you make a statement like that I appreciate that it's a best guess, BUT at 13-14 days in my view, you contact your customer (who by then is waiting for their phone like the arrival of a new baby) and say "Sorry mate, Motorola just can't make them fast enough - just proves what a good choice you've made - we'll be in touch soon".

They did no such thing, I had to contact them, to be reassured it would be with me by the middle of the next week. I went twice more through this broken promises loop when they confirmed they really were going to give birth and ship it to me via ... wait for it ...the courier City Link. Oh dear! These sagas have a habit of going from as bad as you can imagine to much worse than that.

City Link and I go back a long way and the history is not good. I have yet to recieve a next day delivery from them. If you do a Google search on "City Link couriers" the first two results you'll probably get will be this site and Ciao, both with reviews pretty damning of City Link. But that's another story. I'm still waiting for a phone that should have arrived yesterday and, of course, today is Friday and City Link need to rest at weekends as they've had such a hard week doing their next day thing and won't deliver again until Monday.

Getting back to e2save.com. What really astounds me is how a company that does a pretty good job of trying to keep me in touch and giving me a good deal (yes, I still have faith in you e2save) can associate themselves with a company whose web image is so appalling. I'd suggest e2save remove the "Next Day Delivery" link from their site completely until they have a courier that can do next day consistently. e2save need to learn to own the totality of their customers' experience and appreciate how much they damage their own image by using a failing (in my, and the opinion of many others) courier.

I would have scored e2save with a rating of 7/10, giving them the benefit of the doubt, but their choice of City Link easily halves this score.

That phone has still not arrived ...
