We found wholesome sweetness on the nose - toffee, Rice Krispie bars, honeycomb, shortbread, caramel wafers and boiled sweets - but made interesting by waxed jackets, fabric softened woollens and hints of tropical fruits. The unreduced palate was sweet, fruity and pleasant, with merest smudges of acidity and wood tannins - our panellists found toffee apples, orange fondant, peach melba, dried fruits, Moffat toffees and sugar-glazed donuts. The reduced nose seemed even more aromatic - pears cooked in honey, apple strudel, pot-pourri, figs, melons and lilies. The palate was now sweetness tempered by acceptable tartness - apple flapjacks, Baklava and spun sugar - very easy to drink.
