Unscrupulous practice

Note that this review is more than 6 months old and the company's procedures may have changed considerably since this review was written.
I ordered several plants on 13/5/10 and they all arrived before the Bank Holiday, if a few days late.
The specimen large Box was two small plants, the "large" Agapanthus was a tiny root in a 2/3 litre pot as was the Geranium "Ann Folkard". Both were also weak specimens!!
The "large" Echinops was 3 plug plants in a 2/3 litre pot which I accepted and although the Penstemon was small it was very healthy.
All of these had been potted up quickly and sent out in a rush and I was very disappointed and fuming mad that they could get away with it!
I contacted Trading Standards to flag them up and I have now been given a full refund for the plants I was not happy with.
Buyer beware!!

We ordered goods from this company in Feb after 1 month no goods were delivered so, after reading similar reviews about these people we requested a refund. They were not keen on giving a refund and it took the intervention of our bank and the threat of legal action through the small claims court before they would give the refund.The refund was given end of May. The 1 star rating is because we have to give a rating. I would have prefered not give them a rating.

They don't fulfil their orders, they don't email you as they say they will when orders (or in my case part orders)are dispatched. They dont e-mail you periodically as they say they will to let you know that they havn't forgotten about the rest of the order. They don't answer the dockets that you raise. In summary, they don't give a damn.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - the plants GE sent me were low quality and particularly ugly specimens. I placed an large order for �150 with them recently (Feb 2010), and just two months on two of of these plants, which I paid �35 each for, are already close to death! Some of the others,like I said, are ugly in shape or just low quality. When I complained they basically refused to do anything about it, twisting and turning out of responsibility. You can only contact them by creating a 'ticket' on their website, which they have made unnecessarily difficult. I wish I had read these reviews before I spent so much money with them. Save yourself the pain - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

I ordered �88 worth of plants.. only to discover these reviews.. Horrified, I tried to contact them and could not get through ! The "support ticket" system they have is completely redundant and they never get back to you.. as for phoning - don't bother !!
Having said that - within 2 days I had an email confirming my order.. and the next day my plants arrived in the morning..
I did try and swap a plant via the support ticket.. and no reply, so I thought they didn't get the message. To my delight - they did the swap !!..
Would I get them again ?? not sure as 200 people can't be wrong.. and it was stressful wondering if they would deliver.. which they did in the end !!
The only plants that look sorry for themselves were sage.. but all the others look healthy.. thank god !!

I never received a reply to any of my numerous emails and there was never an answer when I called the phone number on their website. Obviously feeling that something was not quite right I googled the company and through websites like this found that I am not the only one to have had problems! I contacted my credit card provider who were great - the money was refunded. I also contacted Trading Standards who logged the complaint but said that unfortunately they cannot investigate a company without a sufficient number of customer complaints. So if you have been unfortunate enough to have had a bad experience, please report it!
What prompted me to post a review all these months later is that on Monday this week I received a newsletter email from Gardening Express asking me to "check out our new and exclusive plants and offers" Of course, they may have changed their ways, but I would not take the risk of finding that out. Why on earth would I want to place another order with a company that basically stole �80 from me?!

Do not touch this company. They are nothing but con merchants. I put in an order and they said my details hadn't gone through. re submitted them and they took two amounts out of my bank account. They will not refund my money. Kepp well away from Gardening express. I wish I had read the reviews before submitting my order. Do not be conned like I was

I can echo everything other posters have said, although my experience has a new wrinkle - having said they would give me a refund (which of course didn't happen), they sent me (on the very same day) a plant which I had not ordered. So I have spent �55 to get one plant which I did not want. I am now pursuing them via my credit card company, and I have a feeling they are going to claim they did fulfill the order. So be warned - if they do send you anything, check it before you sign for the parcel.

I have been trying since May to get a refund on goods ordered in Feb.No point in trying to phone this company as you will get no answer. I have submitted 12 support tickets and am getting no where. Phoned Trading Standards - advised recorded delivery complaint letter to Chris Bonnett
Have templates on their web sites. If can not get any joy from them I am to phone them back.

This is the most dishonest incompetent supplier I have dealt with in years. Fast to take money, but WILL NOT give it back, just occasionally respond saying they have when they haven't. Luckily I paid by Amex, so I got them to step in and recover the money. I will investigate ways to stop them trading.
Do not go anywhere near them under any circumstances.

How is this company still trading ? Surely trading standards should have stepped in by now !! Have lost over �150 but will not give up chasing them for my money back.. will take them to court if I have to on principle .. worst shopping experience of my life ... will never ever use again .. that's if they are still operating ... they take your money and never send goods and you are unable to contact them !! nightmare !!

Please don't use this company. My most recent order with them was infuriating and tantamount to theft. I placed a large order of �100 and was told it had not gone through, so then spent considerable time redoing it. The order arrived and several of the plants were in bad nick. I couldn't get through to anyone so gave up trying to let them know. The ticket system was baffling. Two months later, I got an e-mail saying my order had been despatched. What they did was to take the money for the unprocessed order from April, but say it hadn't gone through and so effectively took the order twice. (Note I didn't get two e confirmations.) So now I'm stuck with goods I already have, and which I've got no room for. They will not collect the goods and say it is up to me to return them - not cost effective as there are about 12 boxes - so I am left with the dilemma, do I open the boxes and water the plants knowing they will not ever give me my money back if I do, or do I let them perish? Something tells me I'm going to be the one losing out either way. Who on earth has time for this hassle? On the positive note, at least I can replace the plants that died shortly after arriving with me. DO NOT USE.

I wish I'd seen these reviews before placing an order for �60.65 on 20th April 2009. Apart from an order acknowledgement I've had no communication from the company despite me raising a "ticket" to ask for the whereabouts of my order. No answer from phone line. No note to explain delay. But my money was taken on the day of my order. I am now disputing the payment through my bank and thinking of reporting these cowboys to Watchdog. Seems as though this is a complete scam and fraud.

I can confirm that this company hasn't improved. My advice is: don't use them!!
I ordered some plants on 20th April at a cost of �35 and, three weeks later, haven't received the plants or any explanation.
I can't get through to them and am worried that my money is lost. The
website says that I must raise a support ticket but it isn't working.
The email address for the customer services is defunct. I've left a
message on the owner's email but haven't heard anything. I've sent a letter to their registered office.
They have a glossy website but take your money and don't deliver. Don't use them!

There don't seem to be any recent reviews of this website, which is why I am writing this. Basically, whoever runs Gardening Express has a nice little scam going. They take your money for your order, they pretend that they have shipped the goods and then BAM! You never hear from them, you can't get through on the phones, they don't respond to answerphone messages and they don't reply to emails. Stay well away from these jokers, I wish I had.
