1951. First edition. 'Calling Bulldog Drummond' (1951) is another rip-roaring entry in the series. The story begins with a wonderful opening chapter that 'sees' a gang of thugs plunder Harpers department story with military precision. Two police officers pay the ultimate price for attempting to thwart a raid that takes place under the blanket of a good old-fashioned "pea-souper". Escaping in a van equipped with radar, it is clear that this bunch of heavies need reining in... And who better to do the reining in than Hugh Drummond? However, in order to answer the police's call, HD must first fake his own death (being far too recognisable to the criminal underworld) and thus - having attended his own funeral - re-emerge as one Joe Crandell. Under this pseudonym, Drummond joins forces with beautiful blonde police sergeant Smith and infiltrates the notorious gang of 'Guns' Crawford. The dust jacket is rather ragged on the edges with some loss. Not price clipped. Text block edge has some speckles and some of these occasionally go onto the pages. A fair to good copy of a very collectible book.
