Cruise Of The Betsey, Or, A Summer Ramble Among The Fossiliferous Deposits Of The Hebrides

Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Hugh Miller was a remarkable Scot who helped to transform geology from an unchristian science into a favourite Victorian pastime. A journalist by trade, he was one of the first to condemn the Highland Clearances, and was adept at finding marvellous fossils in his spare time. He tried to reconcile the Bible and geology by treating it as a physically and morally improving recreation, and his scientific writings took the world by storm. This is a new edition of Miller's 1857 notes recording his rambles around Scotland.
