Eden Philpotts' Dartmoor Novels (widecombe Editions - Twenty Volume Set)
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Eden Philpotts' legacy as a writer is inextricably linked with Dartmoor, as demonstrated by this twenty volume set of his renowned 'Dartmoor Novels'. Each volume is set around a different part of Dartmoor and relates the trials and tribulations of ordinary Dartmoor folk along with wonderful descriptions of the various events and their moorland settings. Many of the characters are based upon the real life people Philpotts met whilst visiting the moor along with their various trades, occupations and traditions. Some of these 'fictional' characters were given names which can still be found on the various gravestones in the churchyards around the moor. The volumes included in this set are titled as follows: Volume One - Widecombe Fair Volume Two - The Thief of Virtue Volume Three - The Three Brothers Volume Four - The River Volume Five - Brunel's Tower Volume Six - Demeter's Daughter Volume Seven - The Mother Volume Eight - Children of the Mist Volume Nine - The Forest Volume Ten - The Virgin in Judgement Volume Eleven - Miser's Money Volume Twelve - The Secret Woman Volume Thirteen - Orphan Dinah Volume Fourteen - The Portreeve Volume Fifteen - Sons of the Morning Volume Sixteen - The Beacon Volume Seventeen - The Whirlwind Volume Eighteen - Children of Men Volume Nineteen - Fun of the Fair Volume Twenty - Brother Man Books are in great condition but show some signs of age-related wear, such as wear to covers, some damage to book spines and binding, and foxing/crinkling to pages and page edges. Previous owner's bookplate precedes title page of each book.
