Elms Lesters (the Elms Lesters Painting Rooms)
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Hardback in dust jacket. A large, heavy volume. In the making for nearly two years, this seminal book, published in 2008, is a monumental tome that not only demonstrates the gallery's passion and continued commitment to our gallery artists, now recognised globally as some of the most exciting contemporary artists of their age, but is an invaluable and important documentation of this historic period. It is published by Elms Lesters as a companion volume, albeit much larger, to the other books that the gallery has produced for exhibitions. Whilst marking the gallery's 25th anniversary, the book specifically catalogues our exhibitions over the preceding 12 years and covers 17 selected exhibitions and the work of a number of the contemporary art world's most high profile artists; Adam Neate, Jose Parla, Phil Frost, Anthony Lister, Futura, James Marshall (Dalek), Boris Tellegen (DELTA), Mark Dean Veca, Ron English, Space Invader, Stash and WK Interact. Exhibitions include Group shows such as, Last Exit to Brooklyn, Don't Do That and Small, Medium and Large, two man shows, for example: Pirate Utopias, (Futura and Jose Parla) and WK-Lister (WK Interact and Anthony Lister) and also the major Solo shows including, Iconography of the Spraycan Movement, (Stash), Seeing is Believing, (Phil Frost) and Paintings, Pots and Prints, (Adam Neate). The book is structured with a number of 'mini books' within its pages, featuring in-depth interviews and analysis with each artist by art historian Ben Jones, who had unprecedented access to visit each artist in their studios, and includes an interview with Elms Lesters Gallery owner and curator Paul Jones. The foreword, examining the historical origins of the Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, has been written by editor and writer Mike Von Joel Hard bound with a beautiful embossed cover and with a spectacular full colour dust jacket, it has 573 images printed across 502 pages. The highest print and production skills and technologies have been used to produce exceptional colour reproduction of the works and a variety of different paper stocks have been used to enhance and support the various sections of the book. The book is limited to 1000 copies. The book has been compiled and edited by Paul Jones and Fiona McKinnon and designed by Iain Cadby and is an invaluable encapsulation of one of London's premier contemporary art galleries. CONDITION: Some spine wobble due to weight of pages pulling down on spine. Otherwise clean and bright throughout.
