Filarete's Treatise on Architecture being the Treatise by Antonio di Piero Averlino known as Filarete. Translated with an introduction and notes by John R. Spencer. Handsome 2 volume set with black and white architectural illustrations throughout both volumes. Volume one is the text, volume two is the facsimile of the Magliabecchiana manuscript. One of the great artistic documents of the Renaissance and the first treatise on architecture in a modern language is presented in this two volume set as the first English translation. The treatise were composed in Milan between 1461 and 1464 by Averlino, known as Filarete, for his patron, Piero de Medici. The treatise is an exhaustively detailed builder's and patron's handbook in the form of a guide to the construction of the utopian city of Sforzinda.
