The active ingredient in Imodium is Loperamide. Loperamide works by slowing down your bowel and returning it to its normal rhythm. This helps to restore the absorption of fluids into your body. Everyone gets diarrhoea from time to time. Though there are many different types of diarrhoea, these are some of the most common ones: Frequent diarrhoea. While most people only experience diarrhoea from time to time, some people can get it more often and persistently. Travellers' diarrhoea. When you're abroad it's easy to get foreign bugs or food poisoning from unfamiliar food or drinks. Infectious. There are numerous infections that can lead to diarrhoea. Norovirus. Other ingredients: Gelatin, mannitol, aspartame, mint flavour and sodium hydrogen carbonate.
