Unique testimony on whaling and relations with New Zealanders by a French surgeon Docteur Maynard on board a whaler, published by Alexandre Dumas. It is written in French. A 2 volume set, the first goes to chapter 21 and the second chapter 22 onwards. Both are bound partly in red cloth and partly patterned board. The covers are in good condition with just a little bumping at the corners. Volume 2 has a small stain on the front one. There is tanning and foxing on the page edges and the endpapers. The text on both volumes is clean with no markings. Volume 1 has cracking to the front and back gutters exposing the cloth cover. Volume 1 has 312 pages, and volume 2 has 309. Both have a green ribbon book marker, faded to beige at the end.
