Macmillan's Pocket Hardy, Volume XIV of the Wessex novels. With a map of Wessex as the last page. Thomas Hardy OM (1840 - 1928) was an English novelist and poet. A Victorian realist in the tradition of George Eliot, he was influenced both in his novels and poetry by Romanticism. A set of tales with some colloquial sketches entitled 'A Few Crusted Characters' from 1891 is collected here in 'Life's Little Ironies'; contents: The Son's Veto, For Conscience Sake, A Tragedy of Two Ambitions, On The Western Circuit, To Please His Wife, The Melancholy Hussar of the German Legion, The fiddler of the Reels, A Tradition of Eighteen Hundred and Four. Used: embossed burgundy cloth over board, gilt title on spine and front cover amid decorative design. Slight shelf wear to top and bottom of slightly sun-faded spine. Binding is tight.
