Poems By William Cowper, Of The Inner Temple. In Two Volumes. 1806

Merchant's Category: Media> Books
William Cowper was an English poet and Anglican hymnwriter. One of the most popular poets of his time, Cowper changed the direction of 18th-century nature poetry by writing of everyday life and scenes of the English countryside. In many ways, he was one of the forerunners of Romantic poetry. This is an early 2 volume set dating from 1806. Leather spine and marbled boards. Some ink marks to frontispiece of vol 2. Yellowing commensurate with age. Spine ends and corners worn. No loose pages, although gutters a little weak. But all in all an attractive pair.
