The Heart's Citadel (1953) includes 185 poems mostly written at Rutledge's ancestral estate occupied since 1686, Hampton near McClellansville. Here, is the magnificent old home surrounded by plantation land. The author used love as the theme of this delightful volume. There is no light/Like the love-light as he draws you in to his enjoyment of beauty in nature, in people, and the beauty of loving. He offers the finest of love lyrics, expressed in simple language, warm and understandable. This copy given its age is in good condition complete with dust jacket all pages are clear and clean. A photograph opf our book is shown. Dust jacket is wearing along the base and top is still intact as can be seen.
