It is mainly women who are affected by cellulite. Women's elastic connective tissue, which surrounds the warming and protective fat cells of the subcutaneous (innermost) layer of skin, is substantially softer and looser than that of men. If the tension of these elastic fibres is reduced increased fat is stored in the cells of the subcutaneous layer.
