(full title is " French Music for Clarinet and Piano ", a collectable, Late-Eighties release on the desirable, "Chandos Digital"-label) In the Mid / Late-Eighties in London, the legendary English-born clarinettist, Gervase de Peyer (1926-2017) teamed-up with Australian-born pianist, Gwenneth Pryor (b.1941), to record a seductive and attractive variety of Music for Clarinet & Piano - composed by six different Frenchmen. De Peyer and Pryor had, by this time, been duetting together for fifteen years. (On examination of the EX+ vinyl, there are track-separations not only for each work, but also for every movement within each work. This is why the track-count is 13, and not the 8 that the Reverse-Sleeve's tracklisting implies) Side One : French Music for Clarinet & Piano :- Sonata for Clarinet & Piano Op.167, by Camille Saint-Saens (15:01) :- 1) I Allegretto 2) II Allegro animato 3) III Lento 4) IV Molto Allegro. 5) Premiere Rhapsodie , by Claude Debussy (14:06). Side Two : French Music ... (conclusion) :- Sonata for Clarinet & Piano , by Francis Poulenc (12:38) :- 1) I Allegro tristamente (Allegretto) 2) Romanza (tres calme) 3) Allegro con fuoco (tres anime). 4) Andantino Op.30/1, by Florent Schmitt (3:13). 5) Piece en forme de habanera, by Maurice Ravel (2:45). 6) Arabesque No.2, by Claude Debussy (3:15). 7) The girl with flaxen hair (Preludes Book I/8), by Debussy (2:07). 8) Canzonetta Op.19, by Gabriel Pierne (2:48). Reverse-Sleeve (sample Photo Four) contains fascinating, 1987 notes by M. Harrison, concerning the French composers and their respective pieces.
