(featuring The Orchestra Sinfonica di Torino della Radiotelevisione Italiana conducted by Angelo Questa. Plus, some of the leading players / vocalists, in this staging, were : tenor Ferruccio Tagliavini as "Duke of Mantua" ; baritone Giuseppe Taddei as "Rigoletto (Court Jester)" ; soprano Lina Pagliughi as "Gilda" ; soprano Tilde Fiorio as "Giovanna" ; and, four others credited) These recordings are, highlights from Italian legend Giuseppe Verdi's (1813-1901) three-Act, operatic adaptation of the celebrated French novelist Victor Hugo's play "Le Roi s'amuse" : Concerning the hunch-backed jester "Rigoletto" and his employer "The Duke of Mantua", who both take things too far as far as the subject of womanising goes! ... Hugo was initially against his famous play becoming an opera, but - after sampling Verdi's high quality work -, rapidly changed his tune! The product is a famous and desirable L.P., that was released on the "Opera Club" series of the Italian "Cetra"-label. It features - in total -, seven highlights from this particular staging with, helpfully, the very-vocalists themselves credited in each section, on the Reverse-Sleeve (sample Photo Four). Side One :- 1) "Questa a Quella", from Act I ; 2) "Pari siamo", "Figlia! Mio padre" & "Il nome vostro ditemi", all from Act I ; 3) "Gualtier Malde ... Caro nome", from Act I. Side Two :- 1) "Parmi veder le lacrime", from Act II ; 2) *"Povero Rigoletto ... Cortigiani vil razza dannata" ; 3) *"La donna e mobile" ; 4) *"Bella figlia dell'amore". (* 2) to 4) : Not 100% sure which - of Act II & Act III -, each of these highlights belong to : It COULD be, that Track 2) belongs to Act II, and 3)&4) both belong to Act III ..., but I could be wrong!) Reverse-Sleeve includes : Line-up of lead vocalists / actors ; Three columns of informative, English-language notes describing each highlight, by A. Taylor (this doubles as a tracklisting - but, there is also the centres of the disc ...) ; Helpful list of other contemporary releases in "Cetra's", "Opera Club Series" ; Sorry, no artist-credit for that Front-Sleeve. Matrix-Runout codes :- "50166 / A1 30.3.61" / "50166 / A2 30.3.61" (typed). Records graded visually to RRPG grades (record/sleeve) EX-/VG.
