It features the world-famous, "Orchestra e coro dell'Academia di Santa Cecilia" of Rome, conducted by the legend that was Sir Georg Solti (1912-97), in Early-Sixties recordings. The material, is the classic Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) opera, "Un Ballo in Maschera / The Masked Ball", which - after many tussles with the Neapolitan censors, in the Late 1850s - became a tale concerning the assassination at the titular event, of "Riccardo", Earl of Warwick, a colonial governor ... With the backdrop being 18C Boston, in Massachusetts (i.e. the British-governed American colonies). The original victim of the assassination in this opera, was King Gustavus III of Sweden, which really happened at a masked ball in Stockholm, in 1792. The package includes an 80-page, EX condition, mono - except for the Outside Cover - booklet (sample Photo Two) containing : Front Cover Artwork Credit, sadly no specific artist given, it is from "The Mary Evans Picture Library", identical to package cover ; Performance-credits ; Tracklisting with individual-timings ; Three-page synopsis, including information on the background to the opera's composition, printed in English, German, French & Italian languages ; Full libretto printed in parallel, original-Italian & translated-English languages only, sorry ... Both discs are in VG condition.
