3rd Imp - Bertrand Russell - The Conquest Of Happiness
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
In The Conquest of Happiness, iconoclastic philosopher Bertrand Russell attempted to diagnose the myriad causes of unhappiness in modern life and chart a path out of the seemingly inescapable malaise so prevalent even in safe and prosperous Western societies. More than eighty years later, Russell's wisdom remains as true as it was on its initial release. Eschewing guilt-based morality, Russell lays out a rationalist prescription for living a happy life, including the importance of cultivating interests outside oneself and the dangers of passive pleasure. A very early copy of this work by beloved British philosopher Bertrand Russell, scarce in its original dust jacket. The Conquest of Happiness by Bertrand Russell. Published by George Allen and Unwin, December 1930 (3rd impression). 252pp. Hardback with dust jacket. Dust jacket condition: Good - some wear to top and bottom of spine, with about 1/4 length tear to left edge of spine. Largely a nice, bright example. NOT price-clipped - original 7s. 6d price intact. Book condition: Very Good - clean covers, tightly bound, clean throughout. No former owner inscriptions.
