The listener will get some classic aural treats, when hearing these recordings : Symphony No.3 "Eroica", recorded in March 2000 ; and, Symphony No.4, recorded in December 1999. They are together, contained on a single compact disc-package released on the ever-respected "Deutsche Grammophon"-label, at the turn-of-the-millennium! Not only is the material performed a guaranteed satisfier : Two of the ultra-legend, Ludwig van Beethoven's (1770-1827) legendary nine Symphonies ... But, the performers are no-less-than Milan-born, Claudio Abbado (1933-2014) himself, at the helm of the Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra ... Symphony No.3 "Eroica" in E flat major Op.55 (46:33) :- 1) I Allegro con brio 2) II Marcia funebre. Adagio assai 3) III Scherzo. Allegro vivace - Trio 4) IV Finale. Allegro molto - Poco Andante - Presto. Symphony No.4 in B flat major Op.60 (32:56) :- 5) I Adagio - Allegro vivace 6) II Adagio 7) III Allegro molto e vivace - Trio. Un poco meno allegro 8) IV Allegro ma non troppo. The package contains a 26-page, EX+ condition, mono - except for the Outside Covers - booklet (sample Photo Two) containing : Front Cover still, of Claudio seated, by "KassKara" ; Inside Cover, portrait of Beethoven (Photo Three), by W.J. Mahler 1804 ; Tracklisting with movement-timings ; A nice-but-brief, two-page overview of Beethoven's conceptions of the two symphonies, by J. Kerman ; Fascinating, two-page essay on Abbado's treatment of the symphonies, by anon. sadly (overview & essay, both printed in English, German, French & Italian languages) ; Plus, some original 1803/'06 manuscript-copies. The CD is in VG+ condition.
