Alexander Calder, by Joan M. Marter. Cambridge University Press, 1991. Hardback, large format, original dust jacket, 302 pp. Dust jacket partly sun-faded, and with some foxing, if only to its white cloth boards; otherwise in good condition throughout. Many black-and-white illustrations. PS29.99 Most famous for his 'mobiles', the sculptor Alexander Calder (1898-1976) was a major figure within the Modernist movement. This detailed monograph was the first to explore his work in such detail. Its only drawback is its remorselessly black-and-white design (apart from the cover), since so much of Calder's work made use of vibrant primary colours.
