Sie hasst so ziemlich alles: Angebote, Vorschriften, Regeln, Erwachsene. Fragen hasst sie am meisten, vor allem die nach ihrem Aussehen. Liss ist eine starke, verschlossene Frau, die die Arbeit, die auf dem Hof anfallt, problemlos zu meistern scheint. Schon beim ersten Gesprach der beiden stellt Sally fest, dass Liss anders ist als andere Erwachsene. Kein heimliches Mustern, kein voreiliges Urteilen, keine misstrauischen Fragen. Liss bietet ihr an, auf dem Hof zu ubernachten. Aus einer Nacht werden Wochen. Fur Sally ist die altere Frau ein Ratsel. Was ist das fur Eine, die nie uber sich spricht, die das Haus, in dem die fruhere Anwesenheit anderer noch deutlich zu spuren ist, allein bewohnt? Wahrend sie gemeinsam Baume auszeichnen, Kartoffeln ernten und Liss die alten Birnensorten in ihrem Obstgarten beschreibt, deren Geschmack Sally so liebt, kommen sich die beiden Frauen naher. Und erfahren nach und nach von den Verletzungen, die ihnen zugefugt wurden.
