An Abridgement Of Mr Locke's Essay Concerning Human Understanding
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Published 1721, the third edition (corrected) of John Locke's abridgment of his famous essay, full leather, double gilt rule on front, pasted-on title, gilt on black, on spine, brown endpapers, corners and edges worn, content not faded or foxed. Inscription explains that Mr Locke prepared the abridgment in 1687 for inclusion in translation by M Le Clere in the 8th volume of his Bibliotheque Universelle published 1688. The corrected abridgement by John Wynne went to many reprints, as it became popular with liberal minded students, earning John Locke the sobriquet of the 'father of modern liberalism'. A very good copy of a very early printing.
