An important and influential publication, An Exposition of the Creed was written by John Pearson (1613 - 1686), a leading Anglican theologian in the Protectorate and Restoration period. First published in 1659, it was based on sermons he delivered at St. Clement's, Eastcheap, London. This copy of the 4th "revised and enlarged" edition is in fair condition for a book that is nearly 400 years old. It has been rebound in marbled boards with leather to spine and corners, showing damage and stains. Rear board is partly detached and front hinge is cracked, but the text block is firm. Spine unlettered with five raised bands, with 4x2cm loss to bottom. Foxing and occasional marks throughout, with water? staining to last 70 pages. Frontispiece portrait of Pearson shows a repaired area of loss approx 7x11cm. Red and black title page. Fair reading copy of rare title.
