This is a rarely seen copy of An Island of Eden by Bertram Mitford. It is undated, but may be the first edition of 1913, published by Ward, Lock Bertram Mitford FRGS (1855 - 1914) was a colonial writer, novelist, essayist and cultural critic who wrote forty-four books, most of which are set in South Africa. He was a contemporary of H Rider Haggard. A member of the Mitford family, he was the third son of Edward Ledwich Osbaldeston Mitford (1811-1912). The volume is in fair used condition, without a dust jacket. The boards are somewhat faded and marked. The front board is splitting on the inside gutter, but is still attached. The pages are browned with age, but sound.
