Even though Andy Stott declares there are TOO MANY VOICES, he makes his instantly clear with the modulated voices and shifting directions on "Waiting for You." Indeed the voices are everywhere, from short, modified snippets to longer lyrical lines. "Butterflies" grounds things with some spare percussion before it swings into mutant R&B with a fascinating, dissonant break ("Forgotten" takes a similar route). "New Romantic" dives into flanged electro with a melody and bass guitar that would make a synthesizer swoon, while "First Night" opts for a slower throb. There's atmosphere galore: the harsh metallic tings on the more industrial "Selfish" to the 80s twinkle of "On My Mind." "Over" drifts more freely, though, before the title track closes the album with melancholy lyrics punctuated with a staccato chorus. Never has Stott's voice been more clear.
