Includes 7 anticlastic sinusoidal stakes Tapered stake also included Perfect for creating concave and convex curves Made from hardened steel This set of 8 double ended stakes includes 7 anticlastic sinusoidal stakes and one tapered stake with a hexagonal centre piece, each having a different amount of bays and curves to create different depths of pattern. The word anticlastic describes a form in which the dominant axes curve in the opposite direction, an example of this would be a saddle, the opposite to this would be a sinusoidal curve which is where both axes curve in the same direction such as a bowl. These stakes are CNC milled from hexagonal stock and can be hand held, clamped in a vice or mounted to a bench (at their middle). These stakes can be used to not only create for example, a bangle or ring (around the body) but also give that bangle a curve, wave and 3 dimension of its own. To use, you will need to anneal and dry your metal and mark out lines on your piece where you will be adding your curve. Hold metal in place and start to hammer, to start with you may think it is going out of shape but if you apply the same amount of pressure as you revolve, it will keep its shape. You may need to hammer around the stake a few times, annealing as the metal hardens. To achieve a tighter curve work down the smaller curves on the stake. We advise using a raising hammer such as 999 7180 or 999 89T as the faces have a large radius on them, ideal for forming larger pieces. For smaller pieces and tighter curves a narrow raising hammer such as 999 7416 or 999 7184 would be ideal, then moving on to a hammer with pointed and narrow curve such as 999 7418 would help you create the tightest curves. These hammers work well as the curves of their faces will then fit into the curves of the stake. We advise when hammering you hold your arm close into the body and hit with simple even blows, not too heavy as your pattern will be deeper in places. Other forming stakes are available; Sinusoidal Stake Small: 997 3611 Durston Planishing Curved Straight Edge Stake: 997 174H Durston Planishing Dome Stake Large: 997 174B These stakes measure 230mm in length but vary in thickness.
