A lovely, aural treat for the listener is guaranteed with this triple-cassette package, released on the ever-desirable "Decca"-label, in the Mid-Seventies. The material are the Five Piano Concertos, that were composed by the Russian master, Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953 ; Sergei was actually born in Sontsovska, which is part of Ukraine - to which his parents moved shortly after their 1877 wedding -, although his father was born-&-bred in Moscow, and his mother in St. Petersburg ...). The performers are no-less-than pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy (b.1937), and conductor Andre Previn (1929-2019) at the helm of The London Symphony Orchestra, in recordings made at the ever-popular Kingsway Hall location, in central London (exact dates of recording not stated - probably near to the Mid-Seventies, as the package was released in 1975) ... Meanwhile, there are the BONUS Prokofiev works : "Overture on Hebrew Themes" Op.34 at the end of Side Two ; while "Autumnal" Op.8 and The First Symphony "Classical" Op.25 itself, together make up the contents of Side Six! Side One :- 1) Concerto No.1 in D flat Op.10 (single-movement work). 2) Concerto No.2 in G minor Op.16 (beginning - Mvmnt I). Side Two :- 1)-3) Concerto No.2 (conclusion - Mvmnts II-IV). 4) *Overture on Hebrew Themes Op.34. Side Three :- 1)-3) Concerto No.3 in C Op.26. Side Four :- 1)-4) Concerto No.4 for Left Hand Op.53. Side Five :- 1)-5) Concerto No.5 in G major Op.55. Side Six :- 1) ^Autumnal Op.8. 2)-5) ^Symphony No.1 "Classical" in D Op.25. * feat. pianist Ashkenazy, plus clarinettist Keith Paddy, and The Gabrieli String Quartet. ^ feat. Ashkenazy conducting the L.S.O. The package includes an 8-page, VG+ condition, mono booklet containing : Tracklisting ; Performance & recording-credits ; Fascinating page of essay, plus notes on the five concertos, all by H. Ottaway (booklet texts printed in the English-language only, sorry) ; Booklet-cover still of Prokofiev's hands in action (Photo Three - note, NOT Ashkenazy's hands), by anon. ; Four stills of Prokofiev within the booklet, again by anon. ; Three portraits of Sergei, by his son Oleg, i) The twin-portraits on the bottom-right of Photo Four, ii) The full-colour portrait on the Front of the Box-Outer (Photo One). The three cassettes all look to be in EX+ condition.
