The English Version of the Polyglot Bible - Samuel Bagster Black leather with stamped swirling pattern to the boards and six blind stamped panels to spine. Title panel: Polyglot Bible, English Version. Bottom panel: Bagster MDCCCXXXIII. Good/very good. Moderate surface wear. Old Testament pp 585. New Testament pp 188. A formidable old Paternoster name. Excellent binding (as one might expect), with hardly any weakness to the spine, all edges gilt. Near fine text block, tanned faces. The provenance of the book comes from the front end papers, where we find family inscriptions following various deaths in the White family: Sarah Ellen, Lucy and Francis Thomas, Arthur Calcutta (1863). Quite touching.
