Bai Juyi was a Chinese musician, poet, and politician during the Tang dynasty (618-907). Many of his poems concern his career as governor of three different provinces ,or observations made about everyday life. Bai Juyi was also renowned in Japan. Translated to English by Rewi Alley, Preface by Mao Dun. Colour portrait painting of the poet is the frontispiece. Grey boards. Colour jacket (showing a Tang Dynasty wall painting) , rubbed and nicked edges, now proected in film. Owner's inscription on ffep dated 1987.
