This is a stunning rarity entitled 'Bartholomew's Pocket Atlas and Guide to Liverpool' published by John Bartholomew and Son, Ltd. in 1928. The book begins by listing key statistics (such as Liverpool's population being 802,940 at the time!) and areas of interests such as railway stations, hotels, restaurants and tea rooms, baths, theatres and cinemas, museums and art galleries, libraries, monuments, parks, and public buildings such as hospitals and schools. There is then an index of all the streets in Liverpool. Following on from this is a full-colour section beginning with the districts and Parliamentary wards of Liverpool before presenting the maps of the city. Throughout this atlas, the reader is given a comprehensive guide to Liverpool's geography including a stunning section on the renowned Liverpool Docks, which shows the docks in all their glory. In addition, there is also a glimpse into Birkenhead, a town adjacent to Liverpool, plus surroundings to the north, south and east of Liverpool. The book finishes with a detailed map of Liverpool's railways and where they lead to within the rest of the UK. Book is in brilliant condition considering its age with pages that remain clean and bright. However, there is some slight age-related wear such as minor scuffing to cover, threads of boards being frayed, some pages coming a little loose from spine, plus previous owner's inscription/ink stamp at front. However, this is a remarkable piece and offers fascinating insight.
