Beethoven: Complete Works for Cello & Piano Sung-Won Yang, cello & Enrico Pace, piano Released by Decca 2022 - AS NEW 2xCD boxset inc booklet Sun-Won Yang: Born in Korea, Sung-Won Yang graduated from the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris and was assistant to Janos Starker at Indiana University in the United States. He was invited to be in the jury of the International Competition of Chamber Music in Banff, Canada, the International Cello Competition Andre Navarra in France, the International Cello Competition Cassado Japan and the Tongyeong International Competition in Korea. Recipient of numerous awards, he is currently a professor of cello at the School of Music Yonsei University in Seoul, visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music and Artistic Director of the Festival Owon at Chateau de Chaumont sur Loire in France. Enrico Pace was born in Rimini, Italy. He studied piano with Franco Scala both at the Rossini Conservatory, Pesaro, where he graduated in Conducting and Composition, and later at the Accademia Pianistica Incontri col Maestro, Imola. Jacques De Tiege was a valued mentor. Winning the Utrecht International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in 1989 marked the beginning of his international career. Beethoven's music for cello and piano is not a rarity, but four new recordings in the past year alone is surely an exception. The fourth new Beethoven set, again of the complete works, is an exhilarating addition, from Sung-Won Yang (who recorded the complete Beethoven in 2007) and pianist Enrico Pace (on Decca, only available digitally in the UK). At the moment this is the set that draws me, but I may change my mind. The Guardian Review.
