The biosphere crisis comprises famine, mass migrations, wars, loss of soil & biodiversity, and other long-term problems caused by climate change and sea-level rise, themselves caused ultimately by over-population and excessive per capita resource use. The device on the back cover is based on two graphs in the book, showing that growth in atmospheric carbon dioxide and global population are continuing with no apparent slowing, irrespective of the 25 COP meetings on climate, and the absence of UN meetings on population since 1994. This is a revised edition of Democracy & the Biosphere Crisis (DBC), and was privately published before the COP26 meeting in Glasgow in November 2021.
