'BLACK RED' by Kyosuke Kuroiwa. Akira Ikeda Gallery / Taura, 2004. Casebound hardback, 27 pp. Does what it says in the title: this is essentially an exhibition catalogue for a show mounted in the Tokyo-based Akira Ikeda Gallery nearly twenty years ago. The artists represented were Jean Hans Arp, Lucio Fontana, Noriyuki Haraguchi, Jasper Johns, on Kawara, Kazimir Malevich, Frank Stella and Andy Warhol, and each artist is represented by just one work, in which the dominant colour is either black or red. The 'Miscellaneous Thoughts on "Red and Black"' by Kyosuke Kuroiwa at the beginning is fascinating: it examines the way we humans have used both colours from the very earliest times. Good condition. The production values behind the publication of this slim but rich volume, as one would expect from the Japanese, are faultless. PS14.99
