Black ribbon nautilus shell brooch with turquoise glass seed beads. This black ribbon Nautilus shell shaped brooch has been made using a vintage millinery trimming technique. It is embellished with turquoise seed beads with foiled centres for extra shimmer. Petersham ribbon is hand pleated & hand stitched to create a nautilus shell shape. During the 1950's this technique was used to create whole hats, but only by couture milliners. Due to the laborious process & the skill required to make them, this technique is not suitable for mass production. This technique is now only used by a handful of milliners due to its complexity. This seashell shaped beaded brooch measures approximately 6cm (2.5 inches) wide & 6cm (2.5 inches) tall. Backed with felt, this ribbon brooch has a 2.5cm (1 inch) pin with a safety clasp. This textile art brooch will be sent in a white square gift box. The final images show the range of other colours available in stock.
