Traditional Staunton design. 3 inch (76 mm) king. Two additional queens. Weighted for perfect balance. Bases covered with high quality billiard cloth. Presented with a 20 inch (50 cm) Italian rootwood board. Complete with a beautiful burl effect case. Luxury ebony Staunton chessmen with a sublime Italian wooden chess board. The Sovereign Series chess pieces are finished to the finest grade available. The sweeping elegance of the curves of the shank, the detailing exhibited in the knight carving and the beautifully carved and sanded bishop's mitre are perfect examples of the astonishing quality this set represents. At 3 inches (76 mm) in height, these chess pieces are relatively compact but without compromise in excellence. Each piece is polished by hand, balanced and weighted and has a high quality billiard cloth base to protect the board. The chessboard is a high gloss lacquered root wood and maple construction. Made in Italy to the best levels of craftsmanship we've seen. The high gloss finish offers a level of opulence that even the most discerning chess aficionado will recognise, and also provides protection and strength to the board surface. The chessmen reflect beautifully when set up and glide effortlessly on the board surface. This is simply one of the best small to medium chess set combinations we have ever found.
