In remarkable condition, including having the original dust jacket. Hardback, First English Translation, First Impression. Translated by Morris Kreitman. Book Condition: Very Good. Boards are clean and with a few small marks commensurate with age (1935). The lower forward corners are lightly bumped and there is a slight push to the top and bottom of the spine. Page block is remarkably tight given the book's age. There is a small amount of spotting on the lower block edge, slightly more on the forward edge with the most on the top edge, which is also dark through dust. There are no inscriptions or other apparent markings. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. The unclipped jacket has a number of nicks and small tears, predominantly in the area of the spine, and the top corners both have small tears. Both inside edges have been folded back (5mm). Pictorial cover is generally clean and bright, although the spine is darkened. Israel Joshua Singer's "Shtol un Ayzn", first translated as "Blood Harvest" from the original Yiddish, more popularly translated into "Steel and Iron" in 1969. Between the covers of Blood Harvest is compressed the whole epic story of Eastern Europe in the throes of the First World War, and to read the book is to participate in one of the greatest and maddest of mankind's adventures of all time. The scene of Blood Harvest is Eastern Europe and the time is the latter years of the war when the victorious German forces poured over the country.
