Preface:- Bond and Pearce were highly successful lawyers. They were also very active in many other directions, particularly in local politics. Indeed during the 1890's their careers were closely bound up with the history of Plymouth. I have, therefore, had to study the general background at the time and the other prominent figures in the history of the city during that period. As a result the book is primarily about Bond and Pearce, but inevitably it is often about Plymouth as well: a mixture of law and local history. I hope it will interest a wide circle of readers.
