Mrs de Salis. Cakes and Confections a la mode. Longmans, 1899. 5th Impression. 1st ed. c.1899. Half bound in cloth with stiff card covers which are illustrated front and back with the title written diagonally. Fair condition with binding very fragile with front cover in danger of being detached. Text is fairly clean and bright with one or two stains. Some pages creased. Short Preface by the author dated 1889 and Index. 61pp Early cook book by a prolific and popular writer of recipes forming an 'a la Mode' Series, this being the final volume. These were a contrast to Mrs Beeton in that they were produced in pocket book format cheaply (1/6), but were aimed at the circle from which the author came - the smart middle classes. About 200 recipes, most succinctly described in a few lines. The Confections include ice cream, biscuits and the more delicate desserts. This copy PS19.99
