Ill. with 19 reproductions of paintings in b & w. 183 pp. In a series of Cambridge New Art History and Criticism which aimed at providing a forum for studies that represent new approaches to the visual art. As the sub title indicates, this volume contains 11 French Essays of what were then a radical nature together with an Introduction by the Editor. Contributions include two by Barthes and one on Las Meninas by Foucault. Louis Marin's Essay on Poussin is the longest article.
