Camilla Nylund: Transfiguration Wagner & Strauss Arias & Scenes Released by Ondine 2010 - CD + Booklet Camilla Nylund managed a gorgeous recording with excerpts from Wagner and Strauss operas. Camilla Nylund's latest aria CD with works by Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss can hold its own in the varied spectrum of comparable productions. The soprano presents herself here as the ideal Wagner singer. Her oscillating and intense speech is exemplary, a radiant forte and floating piani seem completely natural, even when she reaches her vocal limits with Isolde's 'Liebestod'. But with the arias of Elsa, Elisabeth and Sieglinde, Camilla Nylund manages to captivate and touch the listener - and that's quite a lot, considering that the moment 'stage presence' isn't necessarily included here. The soprano also knows how to give every aria great emotional tension. Your sound ideas seem perfectly implemented, The five Wagner pieces are followed by four excerpts from Strauss operas: 'Arabella', 'Daphne', 'Ariadne' and 'Salome' (final scene). It is very interesting to hear how strongly Richard Strauss was influenced by Richard Wagner in his instrumentation, even though Wagner's tonal language flows much more organically. But one might almost say that Puccini was perhaps the more attentive 'Wagner student'. Here, too, Camilla Nylund presents herself in an absolutely sovereign manner, the great Strauss-esque vocal arcs are simply enchantingly beautiful. She creates the final scene of 'Salome' without shrillness, and she can also maintain the suspense up to the last note. Excellent orchestral accompaniment The soprano will be accompanied by the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra with its chief conductor Hannu Lintu conducting. A happy collaboration connects orchestra and conductor with the singer; an extremely harmonious symbiosis between singing and orchestral accompaniment is shown here at a very high level. The orchestra succeeds in an excellent way in impressively maintaining the rhythmic and tonal cohesion, in addition to effectively building up concentrated tension and at the same time putting the singer's voice in the foreground. This CD once again proves the vocal enrichment with which the German opera repertoire is blessed by the many outstanding Scandinavian singers. Camilla Nylund has also succeeded in becoming an internationally celebrated star in this field. One can rightly look forward to her Bayreuth debut as Elisabeth in 'Tannhauser' this summer.
