Catalogue of a Loan Collection of Pictures Principally of the French School of 1830: Exhibited at Lawrie and Company Galleries Contains 30 individual engraved plates with descriptions of artists including Corot, Rousseau, Millet, Daubigny, Dupre, Troyon, Meissonier, Gainsborough, Turner, and Velasquez. Thomas Lawrie was a painter and art dealer who had a gallery in Glasgow before 1850. By 1893 he had moved to London's Old Bond Street where the Saturday Review literary journal praised the opening exhibition, as well as this "handsome" accompanying catalogue. In its early twentieth century heyday, Lawrie's important clients included A. J. Kirkpatrick, the president of the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, and Henry Clay Frick, the American industrialist and founder of the Frick Collection in New York. In reasonable condition for its age. The pages inside are clean, but have foxing and fraying around the edges. The endpapers are discoloured. The cover shows signs of wear with a few stains. The leather spine has red rot which can cause stains to clothing if left untreated. The pages with the descriptions are discoloured, but the paper on which the plates are printed are in reasonable condition.
