This book gives the reader a clear and easy to learn understanding of Chess. It features a number of illustrated images to help the reader understand the various techniques the book describes. Leonard Barden, the author, injects various examples of humour to help entice the reader into learning more about Chess or even starting from the very beginning of learning how to play chess and why. Leonard Barden has had significant experience in the world of Chess, he is a Chess master, having had practical experience with Chess at a high professional level, from 1951 to 1964, after which he "gave up" a majority of his competitive chess to focus on other chess related endeavours, such as chess organization and broadcasting. This additional insight gives the book another layer of practical teaching and advice from someone whom has had experience in the world of Chess. Leonard Barden has authored a number of different chess books, examples include, Introduction to Chess published in 1968, in addition to co-authoring a guide to chess openings in 1976. The condition of the book is very good, the front and back cover is in good shape. The spine, is in good condition, however, it is worth noting that the top and the bottom of the spine is slightly torn and there are small examples of wear and tear on the middle section of the spine as well. The pages show no sign of foxing or physical damage.
