The author dedicated this book to the people of Leningrad and the soldiers of the Soviet Army who took part in the heroic defence of the city in World War II. Marshal of the Soviet Union. Kirill Afanasyevich Meretskov (1897-1968) played an active role in the Leningrad saga. At the beginning of the war, he was the representative of General Headquarters in the city. In the autumn of 1944, the 7th Separate Army under his command halted the Finns on the river Svir and prevented their linking up with the Nazi armies east of Leningrad. From the end of 1941, Marshal Meretskov commanded the forces of the Volkhov Front which in 1943, together with the troops of the Leningrad Front, broke the enemy blockade and then routed the Nazi forces near Leningrad. He also commanded the Karelian Front which in 1944 defeated the enemy in Southern Karelia, thereby removing the threat to Leningrad from the north. No annotations or highlights throughout.
