Contemporary Japanese Architecture - Noboru Kawazoe, translated by David Griffith (from Japanese to English). Published by Kokusai Bunka Shinkokai (Society for International Cultural Relations), Tokyo, 1965. Illustrated. Pagination does not include illustrations. This book is about architecture in Japan; the buildings portrayed are, for the larger part, contemporary, with a few historical plates. The architects are mostly Japanese, although the hotel on page 3 was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the American architect. Many types of buildings are depicted from public to private: a prison, hospital, university, apartment building, houses and future development plans. Ex-library. Illustrated in black and white, the book displays the photo plates first, then the usual publication details, then the writing. Modernist in viewpoint, this book nevertheless also looks at the history of the country's architecture. Condition: Fair. the pages are in good condition and tightly bound. Very slight foxing and tanning around the edge. A rather nice stamp appears on the frontispiece, "Embassy of Japan Library". No other significant marks found inside. The exterior has fared less well: there is considerable wear, tear and fading, plus some grubby marks. A nice picture of an auditorium in a curved design appears on the front cover.
