Contes du Lundi (English: Monday's Tales) is a collection of short stories in three parts by the French writer Alphonse Daudet. Published in 1873 by Editions Alphonse Lemerre and inspired by the events of the Franco-Prussian War, it paints realistic pictures of life at the time: the people of Paris subjected to deprivation, the events of the Commune and the repression of Versailles. Alphonse Daudet also exalts the sadness of the loss of Alsace-Lorraine through The Last Class, the best-known account of this work. First edition. Very scarce item. Colour illustrations at the head of each chapter (see image 2 for an example). Four page publisher catalogue as insert (see image 3).
