Vol. 1 paperback: Studies and Catalogue Raisonne 368 pp, 274 ills (with contributions by Colin Harding, Brian Liddy, Beatriz Naranjo, Larry J. Schaaf, Jim Tate, David Weston and Maureen Young). Vol. 2 hardcover: Digital reconstruction of the Talbotype illustrated volume of the Annals of the Artists of Spain 144 pp, 68 ills. In 1847, William Stirling Maxwell (1818-1878) published in London the three volumes of his The Annals of the Artists of Spain, to which he added a fourth, in a limited and non-commercial edition of 50 copies, containing illustrations made with an absolutely new and experimental technique: the talbotype. This publication presents, on the one hand, an "ideal" reconstruction of those reproductions in a facsimile edition of said volume, since they have deteriorated over time in all known copies due to the action of air and light; on the other, a volume by the two great specialists responsible for this project, with exhaustive studies of both the technique and the historical-artistic context in which these talbotypes were conceived, together with the catalogue raisonne of each one of them. Includes slip case which has some shelf wear. Both volumes in a very good condition.
